Alana Pilar - A Nail Tech with a great sense of Positivity
For the up coming summer of 2010, I would like to bring you a short story of an artist who lives in Atlanta, Georgia. Her name is Alana Pilar. This particular artist has a unique way of looking at things, and this uniqueness could be seen in her works. The one thing about her that really caught my attention during this interview is a positive aura that she gives off when she talks to people. All I can say is that she has an incredible power of lifting anyone's spirit. This is what she has to say about life: "What you do to
others will turn around on you 2x's that's why I don't understand evil
people. It always comes back to you somehow.People think they get away
with being ugly to people but it will happen to them. I will not even be
around people like that because that negative spirit can rub off on you
and you'll find yourself getting caught up in all their mess."
1.Tell us about yourself (where do you live, family, hobby,how did you
get certified)? I currently live in Atlanta, Ga. Originally from San
Diego, CA. I have 3 boys (20, 15, and 8yrs.old) and 1 girl (my miniature
schnauzer Pepper)lol. I am a self taught cake decorator/nail
tech/hairstylist basically I have been blessed with a gift of creating
things. So I’m self taught on everything I do. I went to nail tech
school (Oct.2009) so I can get a license.
2.How long have you been doing nails? I've done my own for 19 yrs. But
started doing other people's nails 6 months ago.
3.What got you started in doing nails? I was decorating cakes for a local
store and it was a dead end job.Lack of hours(15 hrs.a week),awful pay
and I just wasn't making it. I am a "very" single parent and couldn't
support my children with that. So I thought about stepping out on faith
and persuing my career in cake decorating on my own.(Good Choice).Then I
would always get compliments on my nails so I said well i ought to add
that to my list of things I do. So I enrolled in school
(oct.2009-apr.2010)
4.What are your likes and dislikes about this profession? I like it all. I
love creating things. Haven't experienced any dislikes hopefully I
won't.
5.What is your business like currently (you own your shop, working for a
someone,number of regular clients,?) I'm doing nails at home. Since i'm
just starting out doing others i'm trying to build clientele.
6.Where do you see yourself in 5 years? Hitting the mega millions
jackpot lol. Having a chain of hair and nail salons, bakeries,My wedding
business started,My children wanting for nothing. My mother riding in
her new Jaguar pulling up to her new home. Me sitting on a beach in the
islands under an umbrella sipping a Mai Tai getting my nails done by
someone other than myself for a change.
7.What advice can you give to others? Anything you want in life claim it.
And know that as long as you stay positive you will receive it.Never
let anyone tell you that you can't do ANYTHING because you CAN if you
try.I'm a living testimony :)
8.What is your favorite polish brand? China Glaze,OPI,and ESSIE!haven't
really tried anything else.

Amen girl. It is so nice to see positive women. I am self taught at all of my talents also hair, nails, party planning, arts & crafts & I obtain a degree in fashion designing. I too also feel what ever you put your mind to you can & will achieve it. Many blessings to you & yours!!!!

thank you Anetress. Yes ma'am i'm a mama lol."Old Mother Hubbard" No girls as much as I love doing hair,makeup, and nails. I've never had the chance to play dressup. I guess it's a good thing though because i'd have my girls with weave and nails in 2nd grade lol. Naw JK.Guess i'll have to keep polishing pepper's (my dog) nails.I would never cut anyone down to make myself feel better. All that does is knock your blessings. I don't see why people don't realize that. It amazes me how hateful people can be. Then they have the nerve to not understand why their luck is so bad.Always trying to blame the world instead of themself.That's why I always thank the Lord for my blessings and giving me the heart he gave me.

girl, you better preach!!! I say the same thing all of the time : " you need to look in the mirror if you're followed by nothing but misfortune". Lol @ you making your potential daughter into a "grade school diva". I have a 15 year old daughter and she hates make up, jewelry, nails...she just loves art, books and Nintendo DS games. iI don't have her to doll up, but I guess she may want it someday.

You better enjoy your daughter being like that. Some of these little girls nowadays are so fast,I thank God i have boys. Wanting to wear too much makeup and revealing clothes. If I had a girl she would think she was brought up in a convent by "Sister Mary Agnes" I wouldn't play that. I have a friend that is 34 yrs old and already a grandmother of 6. So tell your baby go head keep playing nintendo lol.I'll continue to play dress-up with my dog before I have any fast little girls lol.

It really amazes me as well how many hatefull, spitefull people there is in this world, it is truely sad, and they hate it when others are doing good. but we cannot let their negativity affect us, People need to praise each other for how good they're doing and help others when we can. You are truly a wonderfull woman, and no doubt a great mother and role model! May god bless you in everything you do Alana!
