Hey girls! Hope you girls are having a wonderful day.

Ok so here is my discussion/concern or whatever you would like to call it.

I am a professional nail tech I did my schooling, paid my fees, and learned what was needed to get my nail certification/license in the state of Florida. I know alot of people on this site have done the same too. Now I have a concern that most of you might have as well. Ok, so I was on youtube browsing nail videos and what not and I came across a handful of videos of non professional individuals doing tutorials on how to do acrylic nails. Now I don't know about you but this irks me to the fullest because I went to school for this I have a passion for nails/nail art, not only is this my profession but its my passion and it bothers me when I see these individuals who have no clue on what they are doing trying to explain to others how to do acrylic nails. I think this should be left to the proffesionals because we are educated we went to school for this and it's something we take seriously. I guess I personally blame all these nail brands like Sally Hassen and Kiss ect. for making these silly do at home nail acrylic kits thats can be found at walmart for no more than $15.00. In my opinion I think these kits should be banned from your local drug store or beauty store and acrylic nails should be left to the professionals.

I do not mean to offend anyone I'm just simply stating my opinion/point of view.

I would love to know your view on this concern of mine so go ahead comment and let me know if you feel the same way I do or not.

i understand where u r coming from.... i myself is not a licensed nail tech yet... but i dont use the acrylic nail stuff on anyone other than myself... i dont want anyone sueing me because their nails got infected.... i want to be licensed and know wut i am doing before i start using acrylic on other ppl. that should be left up to the professional nail techs.
I understand that 100% and that doesnt bother me at all, I just hate watching these so called tutorials and these girls dont even know what the primer is for or what grit the file is and they are over here recording themselves for youtube doing a fullset that looks like a 5 yr old did its sad and it pisses me off. But thats good that you want to be a pro nail tech. go on and get your education on lol
I get what your saying but not all of us have the money or the time to become "professional" nail techs. I personally would love to become a nail tech, but I DON'T have the time or the money to go to school and become "professional". Now I do my own nails and I LOVE anything and everything that has to do with acrylic nails! And just like you, I have a passion for nails! But your desire of us, "non-professionals" and "not licensed" people to leave it to the "pro's", will not stop me from doing nails as safely as possible. I hope to one day go to school and get licensed and fulfill my dream of becoming one of the best nail techs out there and have my own place of business. But for now, I do my own and my families with all the precautions as possible. Now this is "my" personal opinion.
I agree with you. But there will always be DIYers out there. I just try to educate anyone that sits in my chair as to what they could be risking and why you need an eduation and license in the US.
I am not a Professional Nail tech. I am self taught. BUt self taught with the exception that I have purchased the same books that the nail tech students recieve such as CLIC nail technician by Randy Rick, Nsi beyond the basics nails systems international tutuorial dvd & much more. I cant afford to go to school at the present moment. So I educate myself by reading nail tech books I do research I get accurate information from nail techs that are masters & or have their license. As we speak I have been looking through every loop hole to get info on how to financial student assistance to be able to attend school cus I love it & its my passion.

I have seen a ton of those videos on Youtube & yes 90% of them do not know what they are doing.

Now I do have customers that I apply acrylic nails to & pedicures. I also inform all my customers that I am not licensed. I have a passion for nails & nails art & I know what I am doing but I dont think just because you are not licensed that you shouldnt be able practice with "CAUTION". To be honest there are some nail techs that are licensed & still dont know know what they are doing. Which are one of the main reasons why I started doing my own nails.

Two separate occasions. I went to go get my nails done the guy put a drill to my natural nails, during nail prep, before applying the tips instead of using the grit file. Second incident the woman used a the egde of a tip to lift & remove my tips with acrylic that was on my natural nail instead of using acetone.

Things done by professionals. Things that I would have not known were incorrect to do if I had not learned the proper way nail preping is done. Just my thoughts & experiences.

doesn't sound like they went to school at all and they are just plain lazy.

please be careful folks and find out that if you are going to be a DIYer, make sure the acrylic liquid doesn't have ANY MMA (methyl methacrylate) in it. Highly toxic and is banned by the FDA.
at last check, Sally's Beauty Secret's Acrylic Liquid did have MMA in it. I'm not sure about KISS , but I'm willing to bet that it does.
Yes girl . This happend when I lived in Cali at a Korean nail shop. I believed they were licensed because his & her license were on the wall behind their station. And thats why I said even though some may be licensed they still dont know what they are doing. And I wouldnt have known this untill I started doing nails. I do research. Get info from Nail techs & masters. I also have purcashed certified dvds & books used at the cosmetelogy schools. Just cant afford to go to school right now.

Now know that there is nothing wrong with using an E-file on the natural nail. It doesnt damage the nail or cause rings of fire if used properly. It makes the application process easier and faster. Time is money and the faster (as well as correctly/safely) you make the process the more convenient it is for your clients.
I definitely don't agree with using objects like tips, credit cards (yes, a client told me of this), etc to remove nails but they do it and ppl let them. All I can do is educate them on the correct procedure and keep it moving!
I totally understand where your coming from...

It irks me to no end, cause I too have paid $$ / did exams / still getting & paying for up to date education, but yet I'm the one in "Salon Land" trying to earn money, and then I have clients that come in and whinge and whine about how they have stuffed up their nails, cause they did it themselves... and I have to try to fix it.

I know a lot of women out their that at present can not afford the training etc, I get it, but what I don't get is doing other ppls ??

The science of all the chemicals is amazing and tough, but also the structure of a Nail Bed is far more complex than you can understand, so I say this, how about you save a bit of $$ per wk, and when you have enough, do your training to be qualified / licensed.

No offence intended. Just my personal opinion.
I agree with ur opinion some people wont understand where we come from untill they spend a lil money and get education pay state fees to have up to date certification and watch someone who has no education what so ever try and do ur job
Ok that maybe how you ladies feel. Yes you ladies are certified but there are woman such as myself that are going through a situation where we arent able to go to school to get certified due to financial reasons. While I am not certified I do educate myself do research & get information and dos & donts from Nail techs & masters until I am able to go to school. I have a passion for nails & nails art. Everyone has to start from some where.
You r truly entitled to that opiinion. But in the same view u have got to understand we all i can safely state on my end and others i know here can agree didnt just glide thru school financially worry free i Had three children who father pass away which left me with more financial burdens but i wanted this so bad to the point of no return .which mean i did as much work tryin to get financial support as i did trying to get in school . let me tell there is plenty help out there but u gotta go get it noone is gonna hand it all to u on a silver platter u gotta make ya own silver platter pretty ya self. i could give my whole life story but im not but woman to woman and if u r a mother mother to mother nothing it impossible when u really want it especially if its going to benifit you and your littleones in the end . The road is tough and only for those who r built like a "ford" tough. and something to give u a lil motivation an yes we all know this saying but rarely put it in action When tough get going the Going get tough .The help is there Love all u gotta do is "GO GET IT".
