Hey everyone !! I am having sooo much fun and I am absolutely loving being a Mobile Nail Tech !! Since I am still a newbie at the mobile thing, I was wondering if anyone has advice or ideas in continuing to be successful mobile nail studio. I would love to see advice / info from you guys who are veteran nail techs, mobile nail techs and everyone else in between !! Thanx Guys !!

This is another blog that i have posted on another social networking site, I hope it helps with anyone who wants to start a business... sorry there are no short cuts intended and I am truly sorry for the long read in advance. but I hope this is helpful to those who truly want to be successful and enjoy and love what they do...
Location



I can not stress enough how imperative location is. Of course no one wants thier business to be a target of theft nor does one want to be secluded. The first step in choosing a location for your business, is to decide whether or not you will be leasing or building a whole new establishment. First time business owners usually buy and or rent an already established setting such as a previously owned nail salon, barbershop, restuarant, medical plaza, and anything else that involves giving a service. The reason being is because, everything is built to the qualifications of your particular state, and all you have to do is move in and put the equipment for that particular service in. For example; if you are planning to open a nail salon or full service salon, you would look in your area for people who are leasing a salon space, and volia there you are. However be patient, this is the first step. You still have to write your Marketing Plan. Not many first time business owners have start up money. Even though you maybe leasing, a starter loan will help you out in the first two years when you start your business. This can help with purchasing quality equipment and hiring of employees if you so choose to hire on a salary basis, and can also help with the ultimate outcome of services, advertising, and RENT

If you're feeling a little on the my-own-shop side and want to build from the ground up, be totally aware that in your marketing plan a functional blueprint of the establishment has to be in there. This shows your investor or loan officer that you are sure about yourself and the longevity of your business and services. (an example of a functional blueprint will be placed below). Your blueprint must include dimesions, divisions of workspace, entrances and exits, utlity spaces, storage and total square feet. You can do a rough draft of your blue print in the paint application on MAC or MS operating systems or you can purchase an autocad software that can walk you through step-by-step placement. It also gives you estimated square footage and a printable view of the functional layout. Or you can have a professional draw one up for you. Usually a good functional blueprint will run any where from 200.00 to almost a thousand dollars depending on time, system and how reputable the person maybe.

Even if you are planning to rent or lease a space. A functional blueprint can be obtained from the city municipal/ hall in your state. This also gives you a full view of the space you have to work with and how much(moneyfor loan) you may need to ask for. In conjunction with location; the internet will give you most if all, the answers you need. Research the demographics of the area you wish to set up shop, observe this area during business hours and after hours to get a true feeling of the movement in the area. Research the average income for the residents in that area. This will let you know how much to charge for your services or products. Research how many people in the area own homes and vehicles, this will let you know if a parking lot will be ideal for your business. Observe the different business' and the flow of traffic that comes in and out. Make time to do these activites and research the information. Investment of time takes discipline and practice. The more you practice business techniques and business thinking, opening a chain of establishments will run more smoothly. Surround yourself with people who are already on that path, who already have business' and take heed to the advice or suggestions that they may give.

Here is some info from my blog on another site about starting your own business, whether it be a small nail bar or a large upscale full service salon, I hope you guys can find this helpful.
Research:

When starting a business, it is always imperative to do research. However your research never ends. You will always have to be on alert; especially when you are providing a service. Wether you plan to rent an establsihment or build from the ground up, certain elements will help you later on when putting together the rough draft of your Marketing plan. Tools for researching include, current business owners, the internet (this can help you with grants for business in your state), price lists of other establsihments that offer the same service(s) you do, prices of supplies, the quality of supplies, how much (money) will it take to advertise. The choice to be a sole proprietor, co-owner, franchise or a co-operation. Researching the difference in these choices will also help on the out come of your buisness plan and in the long run the difference in how much a bank could potentially give you (loan).

Failing to do this important step can and will damage your potential as a business owner and cost you a lot of money to correct if your business is up and running. Research goes beyond getting your Marketing plan finished. As a business owner and operator, this will be key to keeping your doors open and customers returning.

joanne: i really like china glaze which has also been very inexpensive
.. you might also check the boards at www.beautytech.com forums and go down to the bottom and look at the swapnshop... many techs put polish on there to sell very cheap
yolanda: maybe you should go around to the other shops and check out the girls/guys doing nails and see if you can spot someone who is good but unhappy where they are?
claudia has great points for those considering at home salon
lady princess: if your family depends on that move then do it.. they are most important..top of the list... let your current clients know where you are going and maybe you will see some following...if you beat the pavement advertising yourself it will pick up .. just make sure you have some money to float on before you leap...to cover those few slow months in the beginning... have faith
